Pink sapphire

Color is the most important factor when it comes to a pink sapphire’s beauty. While deeper hues tend to be more valuable, you should choose the shade that appeals to you the most.  The color palette of this gemstone differs in the intensity of its main hue: from light with a pinkish hue to very intense. Vivid purplish-red natural sapphires, close to rubies, are one of the most valuable corundums after the blue ones. The price per carat reaches tens of thousands of dollars for a large untreated sapphire.

Pink sapphire belongs to the category of precious stones.  Technically, pink sapphire is a variety of the mineral corundum, which is also the main constituent of ruby.  The shade of pink sapphire lies between pink and red and is considered to be paler than ruby red.  Pink sapphires are rare, beautiful and valuable and are used in jewelry.

Properties of pink sapphire that determine the value

The price of a pink sapphire depends on several properties, including color, clarity, size, and clarity. The richer and brighter the color, the higher the price.  It can range from pale pink to bright crimson. Some pink sapphires may have secondary hues, such as orange or purple, that can also enhance their value.

Also, the more transparent the stone, the higher its price and the larger the stone, the more expensive it is. Without impurities, sapphires are considered more valuable.  While small inclusions do not affect the beauty of the stone, large and visible inclusions can reduce its value.

Origin of pink sapphire

They can be found in different parts of the world including Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Tanzania, Kenya, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia and the USA.  However, pink sapphires from Sri Lanka and Madagascar are considered the most valuable and rare.  Stones from these regions are often considered more environmentally responsible and ethical than sapphires from some other parts of the world.  This is due to the fact that Madagascar and Sri Lankan sapphires are mined by methods that do not cause serious damage to the environment and society, while in other places the extraction of sapphires can be accompanied by human rights violations and environmental problems.
